Millions of individuals face homelessness and dire circumstances after surviving the powerful earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria on Feb. 6. The natural disasters killed more than 50,000 people and injured thousands more, and those counts are expected to grow. Stories about newborns, babies and toddlers rescued with or without their parents continue to circulate. After rescue, many families now have nothing left, including the resources to provide basic hygiene needs to their families.
Jake's is working with a partner (Heart of an Ace) to send cloth diaper kits to support relief and recovery efforts for these families in Turkey and Syria. One cloth diaper kit costs $185. Each kit supplies diapering needs for one child from birth to potty training. While many families continue without electricity, we are working to source and send standard hand wash kits so that the diapers will work well for anyone regardless of whether they currently have access to a washing machine.
The rescue and recovery process after this earthquake will take months and even years before the regions will make a full recovery. Sourcing hygiene supplies, among other basic needs, will be an ongoing struggle. Cloth diapers provide a constant tool that meets the diaper needs of young children, which will reduce the stress of going without for families that are devastated by this natural disaster.
