Challenge

Given the restrictions imposed by Taliban, women's businesses in the non-traditional sectors have been closed. However, most of the traditional businesses in clothing, jewelry, handicraft, carpets, processing and packaging dry fruits for export, nuts and spices including saffron, licorice and cumin remain active. Despite producing high-quality goods, these businesses are unable to sale domestically or internationally. Economic crisis has impacted them and there is dire need to help them sale.

Solution

The AWTC has created an online sales platform to connect women businesses to sell and promote their work digitally even from homes as now they are facing the Taliban restrictions. Also, AWTC will train women business owners and young tech-savvy females as 'Digital Gurus' to help women run these digital shops. This will help women businesses maintain jobs not only for themselves but for their employees and the women artisans around the country and all together earn a respectful livelihood.

Long-Term Impact

The online sales platform serves as a long-term tool supporting not only the initial 100 women during this project but many more in the future. Training women and tech-sassy female Digital Gurus, this project will have an enduring impact, enabling the training and support of numerous women businesses owners in the country.
