Challenge

On February 24th, Russia invaded Ukraine. As of March 1, 2022, 677,000 Ukrainians have fled to Poland and neighboring countries. At least 142 civilians have been killed and 550 casualties. The Ukrainian government has called for all men aged 18-60 to stay in Ukraine to support the country's military defense efforts, splitting families. Just days into the crisis already, over 281,000 have arrived in Poland. As of February 28, the duration of this conflict is unclear, and needs are rising.

Solution

CORE's team arrived in Poland on February 28th and immediately began a needs assessment. Activities are launching in the border towns of Lublin and Rzeszow, Zamosc and Chelm. Meanwhile, CORE's team is linking with partners and the humanitarian coordination cluster system to identify prioritized needs and individuals most vulnerable. CORE will leverage its extensive experience in emergency response.

Long-Term Impact

CORE's efforts will continue to adapt to support the refugees as needs evolve on the ground with the main goal being to assist as many refugees in need.
