In many Nigerian communities, girls miss school every month because they cannot afford sanitary pads or access accurate menstrual health education. This project will provide menstrual health education, reusable and non-reusable sanitary pad kits, and teacher-led support programs for vulnerable girls in underserved rural schools. By promoting dignity, confidence, and school attendance, EFI will help girls stay in class, protect their health, and pursue brighter futures without stigma or shame.
Across Nigeria, millions of adolescent girls face period poverty, limited menstrual health education, and social stigma surrounding menstruation. Many girls miss several school days each month because they lack sanitary products or fear embarrassment. In rural and low-income communities, misinformation and cultural taboos often prevent open discussions about menstrual health, leading to low confidence, health risks, and school dropouts. These barriers continue to limit girls' education & dignity
EFI will implement a comprehensive menstrual equity program in underserved Nigerian communities by training teachers and community facilitators to deliver age-appropriate menstrual health education in schools. The project will distribute reusable sanitary pad kits and hygiene materials to vulnerable girls while engaging boys, parents, and school leaders in awareness sessions that reduce stigma. EFI aims to reach thousands of girls with practical support sustainable menstrual health solutions.
This project will create lasting change by helping girls remain in school confidently and consistently throughout the year. Teachers and schools will continue delivering menstrual health education beyond the project period, strengthening long-term community awareness and support. By reducing stigma, improving access to menstrual products, and promoting body literacy, EFI will empower girls to protect their health, pursue education, and participate fully in society with dignity and confidence.
