Summary

The project will give 1,800 boys and girls from the poorest sections of society in Honduras a quality, all-rounded education, as well as free full-time care and shelter. This opportunity will equip them for a brighter future which will not only help them, but also their families, break free from a cycle of poverty.

Challenge

A life lived in poverty with little or no access to a quality education is the reality for the children we seek to support. There are many children in Honduras living in extreme deprivation lacking basic necessities such as food and shelter, and very few are in secondary education. The country suffers from high levels of poverty, inequality and violence - a child under the age of 18 dies from violence every day in Honduras.

Solution

Children from the poorest sections of Honduras are given a fully accredited in-house education programme as well as vocational training matched to the skill needs of the local economy. To enable them to become independent adults and break free from the physical and emotional scars of their former life of living in poverty, the children are also encouraged to participate in sports and artistic activities. Graduates have been very successful in securing jobs after completing their education.

Long-Term Impact

The enhanced employment and earning prospects of the 1800 children we support in Honduras results directly in their ability to care for their families, improve the circumstances of their siblings and other members of their local community. Our children don't just benefit themselves but go on to invest in the healthcare and education of many of their siblings, sometimes through several generations.
