Ukrainians are mentally and emotionally traumatized by the Russian aggression in their country. Bosnian citizens are particularly able to understand the struggles of Ukrainians because of their experience with war in the 1990s, and the team at Wings of Hope is well-equipped to provide services to victims, both adults and children, from Ukraine who need vital mental health care to help with the trauma of their difficult experiences but are unable to pay.
Almost 5 million Ukrainians have been forced to leave their country and 7 million people were displaced within Ukraine. The United Nations also estimates that 13 million more Ukrainians are in the hardest hit areas, many unable to move and difficult to safely reach with aid. Millions have left behind their homes, and families were forced to make impossible, heart-breaking decisions. Recovering from these traumatic experiences will require psychosocial support, but victims lack resources to pay.
Wings of Hope (WoH) provides psychosocial support to vulnerable individuals. Due to trauma from the war in Bosnia in the 1990s, Wings of Hope has extensive experience providing support to individuals traumatized by war and humanitarian crises. As such, Wings of Hope is well-positioned and well-equipped to help the victims from Ukraine with the trauma of their difficult experiences.
The project will provide psychosocial support to adults and children who have experienced trauma and are victims of the crisis in Ukraine. Improved mental health will enable these individuals to effectively cope with the world around them following their traumatic experiences.
