Challenge

It is estimated that there are currently over 3 million street dogs living in Morocco. Due to the overpopulation of street animals in Morocco, many get involved in road accidents, are victims of abuse, are underweight, have severe untreated illnesses or get abandoned by their owners. In addition, large populations of street animals present public health and safety concerns in local communities, especially through the spread of dangerous and deadly diseases like rabies.

Solution

We run 4 shelter locations between Agadir and Imsouane where we provide long-term medical care, food, hikes and shelter to 550 dogs, cats and working animals. We run rescue operations to help street animals in need. In addition, in order to reduce overpopulation, disease and to improve general living conditions, we started a Trap Neuter Vaccinate & Return Program (TNVR) called No-Mad Dogs to sterilize and vaccinate street dogs and cats.

Long-Term Impact

TNVR is the most effective and humane way to reduce the number of (often suffering) animals on the streets in specific areas, to improve the health of the current cat and dog populations, and to protect people and animals from rabies. Our shelter programme also has a long term positive impact on the quality of life of hundreds of animals. Around 5% of the animals in our care are adopted overseas and placed in their forever home which is our ultimate goal: to find loving homes for our animals.
