Through to 2028

Delivering Healthcare, Education and Opportunity in the Hidden Himalayas Through to 2028

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are pleased to report that following the Nepal Trust’s recent re-organisation and AGM, plans are now in place for the Nepal Trust Healthcare and Education Programmes in the Hidden Himalayas to continue with renewed enthusiasm and energy through to 2028 and hopefully, with your continued support, beyond 2028.

The deliberations surrounding the restructuring of our UK Board and the reshaping of working arrangements with our international partners have now concluded. We have agreed with the Nepal Development Foundation (NDF) the broad shape of the healthcare programme for the next five years and in particular have agreed with SHIP, a NGO local to the Humla District of Nepal, that it will be responsible for the delivery of the programme across Humla. More background can be found on our web site.

Having built and sustained a chain of 8 health posts across the valleys of the Hidden Himalayas, we reached agreement in 2020 that the healthposts would be adopted by the local District Health Officer (DHO) as community clinics and incorporated into the government healthcare programme. We nevertheless continued across this period to joint fund the costs of healthcare workers and the supply of medicines into the healthposts with SHIP acting as our delivery partner.

The core statistics for the programme shown below illustrate the demand for service and also demonstrate that the core need for this project remains unchanged:

Going forward the focus will be on supporting the DHO through education and training programmes and assistance towards the costs of procuring and distributing medicines and equipment across the healthposts. Training will include bringing young people into the healthposts as ‘apprentice’ healthcare workers prior to moving on to more formal training, student sponsorships and refresher training for more experienced healthcare workers at the clinics. We also plan to continue the Little Doctors education programme at 3 centres a year for the full 5-year period.

The budget for the revised programme has been set at £25,000 per annum and on this basis, we will be re-launched our Healthcare & Opportunities in the Hidden Himalayas programme on GlobalGiving with a total target of funds to be raised from all channels over the next 5 years set at £125,000.

Please continue your support and if you would like to be more involved hands on do make contact.
