CHI wants to give scholarships to 100 Afghan school students. After these students complete school, CHI would like to be able to offer 10 scholarships to students attending universities in Afghanistan.
There are not enough quality public schools in Afghanistan for all the students who want to attend, and private schools are often too expensive for many to afford. Once they finish school, university presents another set of funding challenges, placing an advanced education out of the reach of many capable students. Internally displaced persons often live in reduced economic circumstances without the help of extended family and they cannot afford to place quality education as a priority.
Scholarships help needy school students and cover the cost of tuition, books, uniforms and stationary, enabling them to attend a private school. University scholarships means students can attend universities in Afghanistan and in other countries. The funds help pay for living expenses, books, travel and other expenses. This aid brings the opportunity of education to some students who have lived as refugees abroad or are displaced from their original homes.
Returned refugees or IDPs often live in poor economic circumstances and they cannot afford quality education. A scholarship changes the course of an Afghan student's life. By providing students with the funds necessary to attend school, you are giving them opportunity and a way to a better life, after many of them have experienced being a refugee or are IDPs. Education is the way to improving lives and rebuilding communities and to a sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
