Through our connections with the Syrian community and our experience in filling gaps in the humanitarian aid sector, we have connected with local organization Independent Doctors Association. Together with them we are fundraising for a mobile hospital for the town of Afrin. Once this hospital is funded, Movement will focus on connecting with IDA and more local partners to provide shelter and coordinate long term, sustainable solutions to help refugees in Syria.
Movement on the Ground has a strong connection with the Syrian community. We strongly empathize with the pain they are currently feeling, and want to do what we can to help. IDA has lost it's maternity and pediatric hospital inside Afrin, greatly diminishing their ability's to provide healthcare in the region. We also see a serious problem in this region concerning long-term aid to refugees, community support, and adequate shelter for the large number of refugees.
We are raising funds for the hospital, and we are so close! We are at 90% of the needed funding, with only 200.000 left to go. Once the funds are available, Hospitainer will transport the hospital to Syria. Within three weeks, there will be a working hospital, which can serve 6000 patients a month. From that point on, Movement will set up local programs close to the hospital, working with IDA to identify and improve the most urgent needs. As always, we work bottom-up.
Healthcare in Northwestern Syria is in a dire state. By assisting IDA in providing healthcare through this hospital, we are helping pregnant women and injured children access quality healthcare. This is vitally important, as these vulnerable groups currently find themselves with few options. In the long-term, Movement plans to support local people in rebuilding schools, building shelter and improving their community, with our Camp to CampUs method as the roadmap.
