While most children in Madagascar do attend school, the standard of education is inconsistent and schools are often under-resourced and overcrowded. Our project aims to improve the education of women and children in the Nosy Be region through classroom support and educational workshops. We aim to improve access to educational resources for teachers and students as we strive to make a positive impact on the lives of families and, through education, empower them for a better future.
Despite efforts to improve access to education, Madagascar faces significant barriers. Many children, especially girls, are forced to drop out due to economic pressures or cultural norms. The quality of education is often compromised due to limited resources, a shortage of trained teachers and large class sizes. Many schools in Madagascar lack proper infrastructure, including classrooms, libraries and toilets. It's estimated that 58% of adults in Madagascar have incomplete primary education.
Our multifaceted approach aims to improve learning outcomes. Workshops for women will address areas of need and interest, such as English, health and business skills. Children's programs will improve literacy, numeracy and other areas local schools identify. We will expand educational resources for teachers and learners, such as reading materials and support improvements to learning environments. This project will develop vital skills and knowledge to support the community's future
With access to quality education, children develop foundational skills, including reading and numeracy that can be built upon in the future. Women's workshops lead to development of skills, knowledge, and self-confidence. New skills can help them generate income, make informed decisions, and actively participate in community matters. Developing skills and knowledge, contributes to the overall development of communities in Madagascar and creates a positive culture of learning.
