Government Secondary School Mararaba in Nasarawa State, Nigeria, has lost its library to severe structural decay, leaving hundreds of students without a safe space to read, study, or access learning materials. This project by Empower Future Initiative will rebuild and equip a functional school library with books, furniture, solar lighting, and digital learning resources, helping vulnerable students gain quality education, literacy skills, and hope for a brighter future.
In Mararaba, an underserved community in Nasarawa State, students attend school without access to a safe and functional library. The current structure is damaged, unsafe, and nearly unusable, exposing students to serious risks and limiting their ability to study, research, and improve literacy skills. Many children come from low-income families and cannot afford textbooks or digital resources, worsening educational inequality and reducing opportunities for academic success and future employment.
This project will rebuild and furnish a safe, modern library for Government Secondary School Mararaba. The project will provide roofing, repairs, shelves, desks, chairs, textbooks, storybooks, computers, solar power, and learning materials for hundreds of students. Teachers and volunteers will support reading and digital literacy sessions to improve academic performance, encourage a reading culture, and create a safe educational environment where students can learn, grow, and prepare for future
The long-term goal is to establish a sustainable community learning hub that improves literacy, digital inclusion, and educational outcomes for vulnerable children in Mararaba. The rebuilt library will serve hundreds of students annually, increase access to quality learning resources, reduce educational inequality, and inspire lifelong learning.
