Shelter Them Batarure provides homes to vulnerable and underprivileged children in Rwanda, by making sure that they are integrated in an environment where their basic growth and development needs are met. We also give their families the tools and resources they need for these children to have a bright, independent and sustainable future. Your donation goes towards building homes next to an Early Childhood Development Center where kids under age 6 receive a fair start to a quality education.
In the capital city of Kigali, around 54% of inhabitants are low-income families who earn between 38.0 and 225.0 USD per month. Around 13% earn less than 38 USD per month. Access to decent housing has therefore been a pressing issue for the city's poor. Most low income families are the rural migrants who fled to Kigali because of the many problems they faced in their area of origin, including very unsanitary, unsafe housing. Without the basic needs of life, children become the primary victims.
Decent shelter helps create the conditions that free families from instability and provide them with a safe and secure environment that will lead to the children's health and overall well-being. Living in a stable household creates a long-lasting and life-changing impact on families and communities. The children in our homes in Gateko will also benefit from early childhood education, and receive daily nutrition and hygiene at a new community center that will care for 70 to 100 local children.
Studies show that stable decent homes are important to children's development and sustainable growth. Living in a stable home creates a long-lasting and life-changing impact on both families and communities. This project will provide families with safe, secure homes, quality education and health care, and will provide them with the skills, security, self-reliance and confidence to aspire to the middle income class.
