This project provides ten full university scholarships (undergraduate programs) to young women in Rwanda who have been affected directly or indirectly by the 1994 genocide against Tutsi, or are orphaned or disabled, and who otherwise would not be able to afford their schooling. It is our hope that through cross-cultural, financial and intellectual support, they will go on to change their communities for the better.
Due to financial restrictions, many women are forced to quit after secondary school. Without a university education they may lose many potential growth experiences and job opportunities, and cannot alter the fabric of their society for the better.
The Safi Life Foundation is a not for profit, 501(c)(3) scholarship fund for passionate, intelligent Rwandan women to attend university who otherwise would not be able to do so. Our board is comprised entirely of volunteers, so 100% of the donations go straight to the university tuitions and school fees!
When African women are educated and enveloped into the job market, instead of marrying too soon or staying home, they can and do make a significant impact on their society overall. Proven to be responsible with their money, many choose to create start ups and give back in incredible ways to the community that supported them. Rwandan women are strong, and set a beautiful example of how females can become leaders in other parts of Africa as well.
