Witness to Witness (W2W) offers support services for frontline clinicians whose jobs put them at high risk for burnout, demoralization and moral injury. In the last year, the intensity of stressors facing people all over the world has increased exponentially and hope is a resource we all need to call upon. Witness to Witness provides an answer to the call for hope by working collectively to support those working tirelessly to meet the needs of others.
In the last year, frontline clinicians working with vulnerable populations have met challenges at a scale never before encountered. In order to meet the needs of these groups, clinicians have had to set aside their own needs to perform on the job. Inadvertently, this has created a culture of deprivation. W2W disrupts that deprivation by recognizing that clinicians need help to continue to help others. Self-care is a necessity not a luxury to cope with the demands of the time we are in.
Pioneered by retired Harvard Medical School faculty psychologist Kaethe Weingarten, W2W is designed to assist clinicians to move from feeling disempowered to effective and empowered. In partnership with Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN) W2W engages frontline clinicians by providing virtual seminars educating participants on strategies to build resilience. W2W offers peer support through virtual communities that provide the tools to develop practical self-care strategies and build hope together.
For 36 years, MCN has provided programs and tools to assist clinicians who work directly with migrant and mobile populations. As part of MCN's ongoing commitment to creating systems of change, MCN has added the kinds of programming offered by W2W to more effectively meet the current needs of frontline clinicians. The aftermath of the pandemic will continue for years to come. MCN and W2W will be there to help the helpers continue their vital work with vulnerable populations across the globe.
