Inequality begins early in the morning, when the families get ready for school and there is no food for anybody.....In Mexico, millions of children miss their breakfast and get to school hungry. That is a factor that affects their education and physical and neurological development. We, in Nutriendo para el Futuro, want to open a new breakfast program for 120 children ages 3 to 6 in a community with high levels of margination in San Luis Potosi.
Urban poverty is specially cruel with children, this kids face inequality from their birth and it reflects in their capacity to prevail in school. Nutrition is of the most importance in the first 6 years of life, when the brain is still expanding, and Nutriendo para el Futuro strives to bring nutritious breakfasts, medical care and workshops for kids and their families, in vulnerable situation in public kindergartens in San Luis Potosi and has the goal to open a new one that will help 120 kids.
Due to cultural and economic factors, good nutrition is not available to all the population in Mexico, we have the first place in Children Diabetes in the world! With the nutritional breakfasts along with the workshops, we educate the whole family in how to prepare nutritious meals, we impart health and general hygiene, cooking classes, we also provide medical evaluation of every child, and medical follow up of special health cases. We also supply basic necessities like bathrooms, sinks, floors
Desertion is the biggest problem in education in Mexico, we realize this is a multifaceted phenomenon but malnutrition is one of the most incisive factors of all. Malnutrition affects the total development of a human being and specially the neurological aspects that will determine the comprehension and performance in school. Nutritious programs are needed to help these kids become successful students that will stay in school and will be able to access to higher education and social mobility.
