Love In Action: A World Journal Of Community-Led Change

The GlobalGiving World Journal is a collective artifact of love, labor, and everyday action from the people and places where community-led solutions rise and take root.

Each year, GlobalGiving partners come together to create something collectively—first a cookbook, then a book of poetry, and now this journal—and we’re excited to share it with our community.

Inside are journal entries, letters, sketches, poems, and reflections from community leaders around the world.

Their entries begin with love as origin.

What is the love that started their projects? Was it the love of an elephant, a river, a neighbor? Was it the love of a grandmother, a culture, or a stubborn belief in peace?

They write to whatever love started it all.

It continues with love as commitment.

What are the small details and labors that sustain their work? They tell us about the pig Ishimwe, whose soft grunt sparks new days in Rwandan hills, and the sound of drums calling peace back home in Sudanese warzones. They tell us about the sweet smell of Sahlab offered to children in Gaza, and the mist-filled rainforest they vowed to protect.

It concludes with love as memory and future.

What are the dreams, visions, losses, and objects they carry and collect? What stays, what goes, and what is it all for?

Across the journal, contributors write in direct address: speaking to schools, to concepts, to places that have held them through uncertainty. It opens small windows into how everyday changemakers move through their days, showing care, attention, and the rhythms of making change.

This book is an ode to love—because love is here even when times are dark. Maybe especially then.

Change is always happening, but when it is rooted in love it becomes something different: healing, generative, capable of carrying us forward.

It’s what ignites the change the world needs, and it’s what keeps us going.

As the poet and activist Maya Angelous put it, “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.”
