According to the Women's Institute for Secure Retirement women make up approximately 66% of elder abuse victims in the United States, and 89% of the cases of abuse occurred in a domestic setting. Unfortunately, Edith is a victim of abuse by her caretaker husband in France. He withholds her medication, doesn't feed her regularly and delays her requests to use the bathroom. Edith's granddaughter Michelle reached out to us and asked us to help her get her grandmother home.
Elder abuse is horrific. Edith is unable to care for herself and must rely on her abusive caretaker husband for most of her needs. We need to get Edith home to the USA where she can get proper care and medication. Edith's granddaughter Michelle is helping us work with the American Embassy to get Edith out of the abusive home. We need to get Edith an airline ticket back home and medication for her arrival.
Edith will be able to live out her life with her granddaughter Michelle, and her daughter, in a safe home. Edith will get the medication she needs and loving care away from her abusive husband in France.
The project serves 500 women per year empowering them to find alternatives to a life of violence. While most of the abused women we serve have children, Edith is experiencing severe elder abuse. We believe every home should be a safe home for everyone.
