100 Children, 100 Chances to Recover

Dear Donors,

A child suffering from malnutrition may not simply need more food. The child may need to be screened, examined and given the right nutritional and medical care before their condition becomes dangerous.

That is the purpose of Help Save 100 Nigerian Children from Malnutrition.

This is a small project with a very specific goal: find 100 children affected by malnutrition and help them get the nutrition and medical support they need to recover.

The need is growing.

UNICEF estimates that around 3 million children in Nigeria will require treatment for severe wasting in 2026. In the northeast, northwest and north-central parts of the country, conflict, displacement, disease and lack of food continue to place children at risk.

Recent reports show what this can mean for a young child. In July, UNICEF documented the recovery of a malnourished child living with his mother in an informal displacement camp near Dikwa, Borno State. The family had fled insecurity and lost access to the life and livelihood they once knew. After the child's condition worsened, nutrition treatment helped him begin recovering. UNICEF estimates that around one million children across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe could suffer severe acute malnutrition in 2026.

Our project wants to give 100 children their own chance to recover.

As more donations are received, children selected for the project will receive malnutrition screening and medical checks. Support will include nutritious food and therapeutic nutrition based on each child's condition. Their weight and growth will be followed during the project, while children with severe malnutrition, infections or other medical problems will be referred to health facilities for further care.

Parents and caregivers will also receive simple guidance on feeding, hygiene and signs that may mean a child needs medical attention.

Our goal is only 100 children. It may sound small compared with the millions affected across Nigeria, but for each child and family reached, recovery is personal.

Thank you to our donor, partners, health workers, volunteers and everyone willing to help us reach these children.

If this project means something to you, please share it with friends and family or post it on social media. You can also become an individual fundraiser and invite your own friends, colleagues or community to help us reach target.

One hundred children are waiting for their chance to grow stronger. We hope you will help us reach them.

With gratitude,
Sipho D. Mfanekiso
