The proposed demonstration small piggery project will showcase an innovative four-sty piggery system with a waste management system, offering local farmers a sustainable model that maximizes productivity and minimizes environmental impact. This project not only addresses food security but also serves as an educational platform for schools and neighboring farmers, promoting best practices in livestock management
Pig farmers are hindered by traditional practices that often lead to disease, waste management issues, & low productivity. Local farmers face challenges in maintaining hygienic conditions for their livestock, resulting in high mortality rates & limited profitability. Youth & local agricultural students lack practical exposure to modern farming techniques. There is an urgent need for a demonstration project that will serve as a learning hub, equipping farmers with skills for successful pig farming
Our proposed piggery will consist of four modern pigsties (stys) built with sustainable materials and designed for optimal space utilization. Each sty will feature: An underground waste management pit to effectively collect& decompose pig waste, minimizing environmental hazards and providing organic fertilizer for local crop farming. By integrating these modern techniques, we will establish a model that demonstrates best practices in pig husbandry while providing a clean, sustainable environment
We will conduct regular training sessions for local farmers and schools Through hands-on experiences, participants will learn how to implement these practices in their own farms. Engaging local communities in the operation of the piggery will foster ownership and encourage the adoption of modern farming practices, promoting long-term sustainability. A portion of the profits generated from the sale of pigs and pig products will be reinvested into the project for maintenance and further training
