Impact Update: Easter Flood Relief Efforts

I hope this update finds you well and enjoying the Easter season. At Keep The Dream196, we have been incredibly busy, and I have much to share regarding our ongoing resilience efforts in Limpopo.

Immediate Relief and Winter Preparedness

While we are still battling unseasonal rain and high humidity—making mould a significant challenge for many households—your support has allowed us to act quickly. In collaboration with the Scouts from Gauteng and our institutional donor, Kindernothilfe, we have successfully delivered:

  • 75 Families received essential food parcels.
  • 80 Individuals were provided with high-quality, heavy-duty blankets just in time for the winter chill.
  • 20 Children received complete school uniforms (shirts, shorts/skirts, socks, jerseys, and shoes), ensuring they can return to school with dignity.
  • Many ladies have received donated clothing to assist with those damaged and mouldy through the floods.

The Power of Choice: A Lesson in Rice

Through our partnership with local provider PREMJEE, families were empowered to select R500 ($28 USD) worth of items they needed most. Interestingly, many chose rice. While we often view rice as a basic pantry staple, for many of our families, it is a luxury they simply cannot afford compared to the daily staple of maize (pap).

"We never have enough money to treat the kids to rice," was a common reflection.

It is a humbling reminder that what we take for granted is a precious gift to others. Beyond immediate meals, we have also distributed seeds so that once the ground dries, families can rebuild their own food security through gardening.

Double Our Impact: Help Us Reach 60 More Families

We are not done yet. While we have stabilized 75 households, our data shows dozens more are still waiting for relief. Next month, we aim to distribute another 60 food parcels to ensure no child in our community goes to bed hungry as the floodwaters recede.

A gift of R500 ($28 USD) provides a family with the freedom to choose their own essential nutrition for a month.

Thank you for your continued trust and for working alongside us to make a bad situation better. I look forward to sharing a more detailed report on the total number of children reached once our next phase of distribution is complete.

Blessings

Louise
