We Build Communities while Building Character!

Happy Spring!

As I look out my window I see azalea's and clivia blooming with color and vibrancy. I see the promise of refreshing as we experience spring rains. I feel the change in the atmosphere! I am praying that relief will bring a fresh sense of hope for the communities and individuals with whom we work.

As we go into another season, we are excited about all of the great things that Keep The Dream 196 has been able to do this year. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa, KTD196, as is our nature, sprang into action with numerous initiatives aimed at helping our communities to cope with the effects of the disease.

We, like the world, have had to navigate the preventive health measures announced by the World Health Organization (WHO) such as social distancing and stay-at-home directives. These measures have limited physical interaction and pushed us to pivot our program delivery efforts so that we can continue to meet and undertake impactful activities as we would usually do.

Being innovative and with the desire to always do good no matter the circumstances, we have successfully launched community-level COVID-19 response initiatives by launching awareness campaigns; shopping and running errands for disadvantaged people; distributing food parcels to needy populations among others, organizing community gardens to produce a sustainable food supply; and created a community watch team to observe, report, and support each other during this time of increased crime.

Scouting has always been promoted as an outdoor activity and now we are faced with a dilemma that we cannot go past the boundaries of our homes. We cannot interact with people and all our physical Scouting meetings, events, and training courses have either been canceled or postponed.  While we have been challenged to think differently, be creative, and engage with our youth from as young as 5 years old to as old as 36yrs, we have succeeded to:

  • Provide over 2,000 meals through our food parcel program
  • Launch the Food 4 Life program which is producing and providing sustainable food in the community
  • Create opportunities for our young people to help uplift and empower their community through planning, planting, and producing the harvest from the community garden
  • Brought a sense of pride and community unity by having the young people work together on projects and watch out for each other and their families.

Keep The Dream 196 has been in existence for over 17years. Truly, there have been many peaks and valleys during the journey. But today, as the Executive Director and Founder of KTD196, I have never been prouder of the amazing work that we do to uplift, empower, support, teach, and impact every generation in Limpopo.

I want to personally thank you. The entire KTD196 team, board, and program participants appreciate your support, prayers, encouraging comments on social media, and your partnership with us. Together we are building a legacy of leaders, character, and transformation. Together we can proudly say that with the Scouting “edge”, we can achieve anything – both OUTdoors and INdoors!

Below is a link to a recent video of one of our program participants sharing her story of how KTD196 has impacted her life. The beautiful smile on her face is directed towards you and because of you. She is evidence that building character and community is having a huge impact.

Thank you so much
