"Minjhani, u pfukile minjhani?"
What an incredible weekend! Last weekend, over 149 young participants from across our Keep The Dream196 project sites gathered for our long-awaited Camporee competitions. Building on the foundation laid during our winter camps earlier this year, our youth put months of rigorous preparation, discipline, and practical life skills to the test in an action-packed, supportive outdoor environment.
Highlights from the Camporee Competitions
The energy across the grounds was electric as patrols put their training into practice under real competition conditions. Key events included:
Pioneering & Structural Construction: Working against the clock using timber and ropes, teams constructed functional camp structures, flagpoles, and camp equipment, demonstrating precision in lashing and knot-tying.
Navigation & Orienteering: Equipped with compasses and topographic maps, patrols navigated challenging wilderness courses, putting their spatial awareness and self-reliance to the test.
First Aid & Emergency Scenarios: Youth responded to simulated emergency situations, demonstrating quick triage, clear decision-making, and compassionate care under pressure.
Patrol Leadership & Problem Solving: Patrol leaders stepped up to guide, delegate, and encourage their teams through complex physical and mental obstacles, proving that true leadership is rooted in service and teamwork.
Beyond the Competitions: Real Growth in Action
While the awards and badges added plenty of excitement, the true triumph of the weekend lay in the personal breakthroughs seen across every patrol. For many of our youth, stepping onto the Camporee grounds was a masterclass in overcoming adversity and building lasting self-confidence.
Throughout the event, participants demonstrated remarkable integrity, sportsmanship, and mutual care. They cheered on competing patrols, assisted rival teams with equipment setup, and celebrated each other's achievements with unbridled joy.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Our GlobalGiving Community
An event of this scale and impact is only possible because of the unwavering generosity of our GlobalGiving donors and partners. Your continued support provided the vital camping gear, transport logistics, safety supplies, and mentorship needed to make this milestone event accessible to children across Limpopo.
Thank you for believing in our youth and giving them the space, tools, and encouragement to shine. Together, we are building a resilient, empowered generation of young leaders! Please check out our video below of the start of the Camporee.
Blessings you make a huge difference!
