Students at the public high school in Gotera, Morazán, are proving that sustainability and advanced science go hand in hand. Through the "Queen Bee: Apicultural Genetic Improvement" project, they are not only producing high-quality honey but also transforming the aggressiveness of Africanized bees into a safe and highly productive environment by introducing genetically more docile queens.
Thanks to your support, the apiary has achieved outstanding results, expanding from 14 to 18 active hives. Additionally, the honey sales are generating profits that help subsidize the maintenance costs of the colonies. María, José, Walter, Alejandro, Yosaira, and Diego are leading the implementation of these new queen bees and sharing these best practices, involving students across all grade levels. This is leaving a lasting legacy for future generations of students at the Gotera public high school.
Your donation has made the improvement and implementation of this new way of beekeeping possible. It has reduced the risk of stings, increased efficiency, and allowed students to learn by doing while generating income. These young people are positioning themselves as innovative technicians, ready to strengthen the economy of rural families in Morazán, El Salvador.
