This microproject will help 30 families in coastal Ghana rebuild their livelihoods after tidal waves destroyed their homes and sources of income. Your support will provide the rubber sheets needed for traditional salt harvesting, allowing families to restart salt production, earn a reliable income, support their children, and begin rebuilding a more secure future.
The Ketu South tidal waves destroyed homes and livelihood infrastructure in the coastal communities of Agavedzi, Salakorpe, and Amutinu in Ghana. Families who depended on traditional salt production lost the rubber sheeting needed to harvest salt, leaving them without a source of income. Because crops cannot be grown in this coastal area, families rely on salt production and fishing to buy food and meet basic needs. Without support, households face ongoing poverty and food insecurity.
This microproject will provide specialized rubber sheeting to 30 families so they can restart traditional salt production. The rubber is used to collect saltwater on concrete plates, where the sun evaporates the water and leaves salt crystals that can be harvested and sold. By restoring access to this essential equipment, families will regain a reliable source of income to purchase food, support their children's education, and rebuild stable livelihoods after the Ketu South tidal waves.
