Dear Donors,
For someone living on the street with a disability, becoming sick can bring another hardship: knowing treatment exists but having no way to pay for it or even reach a clinic.
A painful wound may remain untreated. A fever may be endured for days. Medicines prescribed during an earlier hospital visit may never be purchased. For someone with limited mobility, simply travelling to a health facility can be difficult.
This is why we created Sadaqah Care for 50 Homeless Disabled People.
Rather than waiting for people to find their way to us, this project plans to take basic medical care to people where they are.
Our medical team will meet homeless people with disabilities, listen to their health concerns and provide basic health checks, tests, wound care, prescribed medicines and treatment within the limits of safe street-based care. Anyone requiring hospital treatment will be referred to an appropriate health facility.
The project will begin with 50 people.
Each person will be treated as an individual rather than simply another number. Their medical needs will differ, and the care provided will be based on what our health workers find during assessment.
This project is supported through Sadaqah — voluntary charity in Islam — but the care will not be limited to Muslims. A person will not be turned away because of religion, tribe, gender or background. If someone needs medical help and meets the project's criteria, that person can receive support.
We are grateful to our first donor for believing in this work. We also thank the medical workers, volunteers, partners and supporters who are willing to help us reach people who can easily be overlooked.
As donations are received and medical visits begin, we will share updates about the number of people reached, the care provided and referrals made, while respecting each patient's privacy and dignity.
If this project speaks to you, please share it with your friends, family and on social media. You can also become an individual fundraiser on GlobalGiving and invite people in your community to support medical care for people living on the streets.
Sadaqah can begin with a simple act of kindness: seeing someone who has been overlooked and choosing not to walk past.
Thank you for caring.
With gratitude,
Khalid Abubakar

Start a FundraiserEvery microproject is intended to use the donations it receives in accordance with its stated description; however, it is important to provide project leaders with the flexibility to maximize the potential benefit from the donations they receive. This means that your donation may be used as a part of the main project that supports this microproject, specifically Ramadan & Eid Relief for Muslims with Disabilities. In this event, the project leader is required to post an update to the microproject detailing the results and reasons behind this change.
If you or any other donor is unhappy with the way their funds have been used, he or she can reallocate their donation using the GlobalGiving guarantee.
