Dear friends and supporters of WAG,
It’s been a busy 2024 so far for WAG! Despite not quite reaching the fundraising total we set on our 'WAG On The Move' GlobalGiving page, we also raised funds offline, and with the matching funds provided by GlobalGiving, we raised close to our total — meaning we moved to our new shelter at the beginning of February! Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who supported us, online and offline.
We have secured rent for a year, and have done extensive renovations to the shelter, including putting in fences to create a dog run, creating a safe and secure quarantine building, and of course painting everything in our signature WAG teal!
We were also fortunate enough to have some furniture and kitchen equipment donated to us by some kind friends of WAG in Kigali. Thank you to everyone who donated items - this really helped ease our transition.
The last six weeks have been the busiest month in WAG history. In February alone, we rescued 3 mama dogs with a combined total of 18 puppies, and 4 adult dogs found on the street in different areas of Kigali. 7 adult dogs and 18 puppies in one month is definitely a record! It is incredible to know we have made such an impact already - these dogs’ lives have been changed and it wouldn’t have been possible before our move.
However the hard work really starts now as we care for these dogs (and a lot more to come!) and make sure they get the veterinary care, training and love they need before they can be rehomed. But we are so grateful to have such an incredible team of supporters from all over the world donating to us to make this all happen. We’re excited for the future and once again a huge THANK YOU for being part of this journey with us! We couldn't do it without you.
With love and wagging tails from the humans and dogs at WAG
