Project Update

Project: A Circle of Care – Dairy Project, Sri Lanka
Reporting Period: January to March 2026

We are pleased to share that the Compassionate Dairy Project has entered its active infrastructure development phase.

During this reporting period, construction of the primary dairy shed has commenced and is currently ongoing. The steel framework has been erected and roofing installation is in progress, establishing the initial structure for the future housing and milking area. This represents an important transition from planning to physical implementation.

Progress to Date

Work undertaken so far includes:

  • Erection of the main shed framework (ongoing)
  • Roofing installation (partially completed)
  • Ground leveling and internal surface preparation
  • Excavation of drainage trenches for waste management
  • Foundation preparation for internal support pillars
  • Site grading to ensure proper water runoff

The drainage trenching underway forms part of the planned sanitation system, essential for maintaining hygiene, biosecurity, and environmental responsibility. Flooring, stall layout, and feed storage areas are not yet complete and will continue in phases.

It is important to note that all current infrastructure works — including the shed, drainage, and ground preparation — remain in progress. Construction is being carried out carefully and sequentially to ensure durability, animal welfare standards, and long-term sustainability.

Use of Funds

Funds raised to date are supporting:

  • Structural materials and shed construction
  • Labour for excavation and site preparation
  • Drainage and waste management systems
  • Ground stabilization and foundation works

These foundational investments must be fully completed before cattle procurement can begin, ensuring proper welfare and biosecurity measures are in place from the outset.

March Little by Little Campaign (17–20 March)

We are pleased to share that this project will participate in GlobalGiving’s March Little by Little Campaign from March 17th to 20th.

During this campaign, eligible donations up to $50 per donor will be matched at 50%, while matching funds remain available. This is a meaningful opportunity to accelerate infrastructure completion.

Campaign contributions will directly support:

  • Completion of shed construction
  • Final flooring and drainage installations
  • Installation of stalls and internal layout
  • Preparation for phased cattle introduction

Looking Ahead

In the coming phase, we aim to complete ongoing infrastructure works and establish quarantine and biosecurity protocols prior to cattle procurement.
