JOSEFINA

By Gudrun Olaya | Project Leader

Dear donor and friend, there are so many stories to tell, innumerable anecdotes to share, and wherever love is involved, there is always a happy ending, no matter the outcome. Juan adopted in November one of our feral cats, but the adaptation process ended abruptly due to the barbaric Christmas fireworks. The cat ran away from home, so scared, that she got lost and was never found. However, Juan left posters everywhere, and one day a neighbour called him “I have your cat, it came into my house straightaway”. Well, there are a lot of homeless black cats out there, and though Juan was disappointed not to find his recently adopted cat, Josefina came into his life. She was dehydrated, famelic and had a huge tumor coming out of her chest, that looked like a tree fungus. It was love at first sight and Juan decided to foster her during her treatment, in order to look later for an appropiate forever home. We published “Miss Josefina”, and the community started to donate from money for the exams to chicken offal. Three local microenterprises joined to organize a raffle pro funds, the prize was a basket full of organic products. Josefina gained weight and the day came to remove the tumor by surgery. On their way to the clinic, the cat wouldn´t accomodate herself in a crate, but on Juan’s lap, the couple had become inseparable!! It was a surgery of five hours, but everything went fine. Now Josefina was allowed to sleep in Juan´s bed, for a closer observation, as he said. And then, still in recovery, Josefine hugged Juan, which melted his heart. Now, she is officially adopted and does not need any pretexts to sleep in his bed. By the way, the tumor turned out to be malign, a carcinoma, but we all know that pure love has such a healing power and hopefully, this is only the beginning of a long lasting love story.
