Diani Children’s Village (DCV)Donor Report: “A Legacy of Hope” Initiative
March 2026
1. Introduction
For over 31 years, Diani Children’s Village (DCV) has remained a pillar of hope along the Kenyan coast, providing a safe, nurturing, and supportive home for abandoned, neglected, and vulnerable children. As we celebrate more than three decades of transforming lives, we are proud to introduce “A Legacy of Hope”—a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening our child protection systems and enhancing access to holistic care.
This project underscores our commitment to ensuring that every child in our care transitions from vulnerability to stability, from despair to hope, through access to quality medical, psychological, and educational support.
2. Key Challenges
Despite our continued efforts, DCV is currently facing several critical challenges:
a) Rising Medical Expenses
The demand for specialized medical care has significantly increased. A notable case is Baby Isham, who was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition (a hole in the heart) following an echocardiogram. This diagnosis necessitates continuous monitoring, specialized treatment, and long-term medical support.
b) Increasing Educational Costs
Education remains one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty. However, the rising cost of school fees, learning materials, and examination expenses for children in primary, secondary, and special needs education continues to place a substantial financial strain on the organization.
c) Staffing and Caregiver Support
The need for consistent, well-trained, and adequately supported caregivers is critical to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. Currently, ensuring sustainable staffing levels and fair support for caregivers remains a key challenge.
3. Project Solution: “A Legacy of Hope”
Through the generous support of our donors, funds raised under this initiative will be allocated to the following core areas:
a) Medical and Therapeutic Care
Provision of essential medical treatments and follow-ups for children with critical health conditions
Access to specialized care, including diagnostics, therapy, and rehabilitation services
Continuous monitoring and support for children with chronic illnesses
b) Education Support
Payment of school fees across all levels (primary, secondary, and special needs)
Provision of learning materials, uniforms, and essential school supplies
Coverage of examination and academic-related costs
c) Strengthening Child Protection Systems
Training staff in safeguarding practices and trauma-informed care
Enhancing internal child protection policies and response systems
Promoting a safe, supportive, and rights-based environment for all children
d) Caregiver Support and Sustainability
Providing fair and sustainable support to caregivers
Ensuring staff retention and consistency in child care
Strengthening the overall quality of care and emotional support provided to children
4. Long-Term Impact
“A Legacy of Hope” is not only a response to immediate needs but a long-term investment in the lives of vulnerable children.
Through this initiative:
Children with medical conditions will receive timely and continuous treatment, significantly improving their health outcomes and quality of life.
Access to education will be sustained, empowering children with the knowledge and skills necessary for independence and future success.
Strengthened caregiving systems will ensure children grow in a stable, safe, and nurturing environment, supported by trained and motivated staff.
Ultimately, this project aims to raise a generation of confident, healthy, and empowered individuals who can contribute positively to society.
5. Conclusion and Appreciation
As Diani Children’s Village marks over three decades of service, “A Legacy of Hope” represents a renewed commitment to safeguarding the future of every child under our care.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all our donors and partners whose unwavering support continues to make this mission possible. Your contribution is not only addressing urgent needs but also building a foundation of hope, dignity, and opportunity for generations to come.
Together, we are not just changing lives—we are building a lasting legacy of hope.
