It is wonderful to see the progress we have made in building a maternity unit to save lives in Burundi. Many people contributed to the progress of our project through donations on GlobalGiving, in-kind support from the community we serve as well as from health and administration officers. It has been a long journey but we are closer to make it happen. The Covid-19 pandemic has shown us a pressing need for primary care solutions, especially for women and children, that can prevent the spread of future pandemics. The Village Microclinic already thinks about pregnant women and new born in our catchment area who lack access to primary care services due to lack of adequate health facilities in our community. Our attention goes to those families who have to travel many kilometers on foot to reach the nearest clinic, and the youngest pregnant and most vulnerable mothers who face stigma and discrimination.
The maternity unit is at 96% of completion. Thank you for your generosity and support to improve maternal and child health services in Burundi especially in underserved communities like ours. We are happy that we will be able to offer mothers critical, lifesaving information, and instill in them the importance of seeking healthcare before, during, and after child birth. This maternity unit will remove many obstacles that keep women from giving birth in the safety of a medical clinic.
We haven't any equipment yet. We hope to see our maternity unit equiped with a variety of technologies designed to promote health literacy, screening tests, and lifesaving medical supplies in the nearest future. Thank you so much for being on our side to improve maternal and child health in Burundi and save more lives.
