Our mission of bringing health services closer to underserved communities of Burundi by building a maternity unit to save more lives is becoming a reality.We are happy that building activities of our maternity unit are now completed. We are grateful for your contribution and continued support. The process was scary at the beginning but we gained more confidence and clarity when we saw many friends of The Village Microclinic coming to us with encouragement and support. With you we have been able to achieve this life-changing milestone. We made it together and with you we are making more positive impact on the community we serve.
The great news is that the ministry of health agreed that activities at the maternity unit can start at any time when necessary tools and equipment are available at this unit. The maternity unit will serve more than 150 pregnant mothers and their new-born per month and we plan to conduct additional outreaches in the community through the work of community health workers. 24 community health workers have been trained by The Village Microclinic to diagnose danger symptoms in pregnancy and then refer pregnant women with those symptoms to the nearest health facility. Community health workers have referred 86 pregnant women who needed emergency treatment and care to nearest health facilities.
The challenge of the moment is to equip the maternity unit with necessary tools to ensure a healthy environment for pregnant mothers and their children. We want to provide high quality health care to mothers and new born. We count on your generosity and unwavering support to achieve excellence in maternal and child care. We have attached some photos to show the progress we have made.
With love and gratitude;
