In Burundi, countless women tragically lose their lives each year due to complications during pregnancy. Our healthcare system struggles to reach these women in a timely manner. Women residing in underserved communities are either unable to access healthcare entirely, or receive it far too late. This delay in receiving prenatal care or treatment for illnesses like malaria and pneumonia creates a significant barrier, leaving behind thousands of patients and contributing to preventable deaths linked to poverty.
The Village Microclinic, determined to tackle this challenge of delayed healthcare delivery, embarked on an ambitious project: building a maternity unit. This unit aims to save 2,300 lives in Burundi by significantly increasing the number of women who have access to skilled healthcare providers during childbirth. By eliminating obstacles that postpone critical care for pregnant women and newborns in Bujumbura's peri-urban areas, this maternity unit will demonstrably save lives. Construction of the unit is 100% complete, and we eagerly anticipate opening it to the public soon. Alongside construction efforts, we've been diligently working to secure the vital equipment needed to deliver exceptional care.
The Village Microclinic is thrilled and immensely appreciative of your ongoing support as individual and organizations like the DAK Foundation of Australia, who, through the Gould Family Foundation, generously donated a sterilizer and two vital signs monitors. These crucial additions will significantly enhance the unit's ability to provide comprehensive medical services.
With gratitude,
