A maternity unit to save 2,300 lives in Burundi

Burundi faces a harrowing reality: maternal mortality rates remain alarmingly high. Countless women in our nation succumb to complications during pregnancy and childbirth, leaving behind devastated families and communities. This crisis is particularly acute in underserved areas, where women often lack access to essential healthcare, including prenatal care and skilled birth attendance. Poverty exacerbates this issue, creating a vicious cycle of deprivation and loss.

The Village Microclinic is committed to breaking this cycle and saving lives. Our flagship project, “building a maternity unit - The Rukundo Medical Polyclinic, is a testament to this commitment. By providing accessible, high-quality maternal healthcare, we aim to significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in Bujumbura's peri-urban communities. We are thrilled to report that the construction of the Rukundo Medical Polyclinic is 100% complete! This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with essential medical equipment, ready to serve the women and children of our community. Our focus is now on building a skilled healthcare team through rigorous recruitment and training.
