A maternity unit to save 2,300 lives in Burundi

The persistent challenge of maternal mortality in Burundi, particularly within its vulnerable peri-urban and slum communities, underscores the critical need for accessible and quality healthcare. The Village Microclinic remains steadfast in its mission to uplift the health and well-being of these populations. Our flagship initiative, the Rukundo Medical Polyclinic in Bujumbura's peri-urban area, stands as a testament to this commitment.

Building upon the operational launch of the Rukundo Medical Polyclinic, we are delighted to report the successful implementation of two pivotal free health programs starting March 3, 2025: Vaccination, Postnatal Consultations, and Prenatal Consultations. These initiatives are strategically designed to further strengthen our impact on the health and well-being of mothers and their newborns.

While we celebrate the significant progress made with the operationalization of the Polyclinic and the launch of these vital programs, we continue to face critical needs in terms of essential medical equipment. The following items remain crucial for us to reach our full potential in providing comprehensive care and ultimately saving more lives: 1 ultrasound scan machine, 1 radiant warmer, 5 neonatal incubators, 1 neonatal phototherapy lamp, 1 neonatal resuscitation table, 2 washing machines and 1 sterilizer poupinel.
