New Life Page for "Invisible" Children - Vietnam

To guide a special-needs child into the world, it takes more than just standard lessons, it takes a community of quiet, steadfast hands. It requires teachers who measure progress not in years, but in the gentle softening of a temper; parents who labor through exhausting days just to afford a moment of specialized care; and advocates who believe that every child, regardless of their starting point, deserves a place to belong. 

For many underprivileged families in Ho Chi Minh City, this journey is a steep uphill climb. Parents working as street vendors, housekeepers, or freelance drivers often face an agonizing choice between putting food on the table and affording the specialized education their children desperately need. Children with autism, hearing impairments, or learning difficulties are left waiting in the shadows of a world they cannot yet navigate. 

Recognizing this silent struggle, MSD United Way Vietnam’s "Go to School with You" initiative, under the "A New Life Page" project, stepped in to walk alongside the Hope Class. Throughout the 2025-2026 school year, this partnership became a sanctuary for fifteen very special children, transforming what once seemed like unreachable milestones into beautiful, everyday realities. 

Behind this project are families who have carried heavy hearts for years. There is H.N.T., diagnosed with autism at age three, whose parents, a vegetable vendor and a laborer, could only watch helplessly as sensory overload and sleepless nights overwhelmed their daughter. There are N.C.N.N. and P.N.B.T., children living with both hearing loss and autism, whose parents left their rural hometowns for the city, driven by the single, burning hope of finding a voice for their children. 

But inside the quiet rooms of the Hope Class, under the patient guidance of teachers who never raise their voices, those heavy burdens have begun to lift. 

Change here does not happen overnight, but in gentle ripples. Tears of frustration and emotional outbursts have slowly given way to the soft, rhythmic hum of reading. Children who once lived in silence are now holding pencils with determination, tracing wobbly but proud letters to write about the people they love. Wooden blocks and interactive games have replaced the lonely glow of phone screens, sparking curiosity and laughter. Step by step, the children are mastering basic numbers, learning to share, and finding joy in simple tasks like sweeping the floor or tidying up after class. 

Every specialized toy, every sensory ball, and every reused sheet of paper in this classroom represents a dream kept alive. By weaving together the dedication of teachers, the resilience of parents, and the warmth of community support, the project does more than just teach. It builds a bridge to a brighter tomorrow, one where these children can care for themselves, express their love, and step out into the world exactly as they are.
