Project Report | Mar 26, 2024
4 months of campaigning and we are moving forward!

By Yuri CHOUCAIR | Project Leader

Dear Donor,

I am writing this letter to express my sincere gratitude for your generous support towards our project to build a new school in Kabiria, Kenya. Your contribution has been invaluable in helping us move closer to our goal of providing quality early-childhood education to very poor children in the region.

Since the launch of our project, just 4 months ago, on November 26th, 2023, we have made significant progresses towards our mission, thanks to the collective efforts of donors like you. Together, we have managed to raise approximately $80,000, with almost 250 donors, not only through the GlobalGiving platform but also in direct donations made to our accounts in Kenya, Brazil and Europe, a remarkable achievement that demonstrates our shared commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of these children.

With your support, we have been able to lay the groundwork for the construction of the school, including securing an appropriate site, obtaining important permits, and engaging local architects and engineers. Every dollar contributed has been instrumental in bringing us closer to realizing our vision of providing a safe, beautiful, and bigger learning environment for the children of Kabiria.

Evolution of the architectural and engineering projects

The architectural and engineering projects are quite advanced and initial government approvals have already been obtained. We are now in the project detailing phase and discussion of budgets by the construction companies invited to present their proposal. Attached you will find a report with pictures of the site and the concept sketches of the new HAI Centre.

School construction

We hope to start construction of the school at the end of April or beginning of May 2024. Our initial estimate was that works would begin at the end of March, but authorizations from the Kenyan government delayed it a little longer than we expected, postponing the start of works. Despite the slight delay in starting construction, we remain fully committed to our objective of completing construction this year and having the new school operational at the beginning of next year. The architects and engineers estimate a period of 6 months for the construction of the school.

Next steps

While we have made significant strides towards our fundraising goal, we still have a shortfall of $40,000 to fully finance the project. However, I want to assure you that we remain steadfast in our commitment to seeing this project through to completion. We are exploring various avenues to bridge the funding gap, including seeking additional grants, partnering with local businesses, and organizing fundraising events. Your continued support and encouragement are vital as we navigate these challenges and work towards achieving our shared goal.

On April 8-12, GlobalGiving will launch its Little by Little campaign, where eligible donations up to $50 per unique donor per organization will be matched at 50% during the campaign. I invite you to stay engaged with our project and witness the impact of your generosity firsthand.

We will keep you updated on our progress through regular reports, newsletters, and other communication channels. Additionally, I welcome any feedback or suggestions you may have as we strive to make this project a success.

Once again, thank you for your unwavering support and belief in our mission. Together, we are transforming lives and creating brighter futures for the children of Kabiria, Kenya. If you have any questions or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

With gratitude,

Yuri CHOUCAIR
