Hello friends and supporters!
We are pleased to report that, despite ongoing conflict and instability in the region, the Idjwi Island Education Fund is continuing to provide much needed medical support for the children at the Buhumba primary school. Our local medical team completed multi-day medical missions to the school in March and again in May. During these missions, the medical team provided curative medical consultations, screening for pathologies, medical interventions, and awareness and health education.
During the most recent medical mission from April 30-May 4, the physician, nurse, and medical intern saw a total of 242 children. Most are between 5 and 10 years old. The most common medical conditions were malaria, respiratory and digestive infections, and skin diseases. The medical team administered antimalarials, antibiotics, antiparasitics, antipyretics, antifungals, and other medicines. The team also focused on health education and building awareness in the community.
There is a tremendous need in the community. The medical team expressed their gratitude to the Idjwi Island Education Fund, and our supporters, for continuing to support the missions to the school.
