A New School Year, A Ray of Hope: Supporting Deheishe's Children Together

By Luay | Coordinator

UNRWA school off to a fun start with Karama's help
UNRWA school off to a fun start with Karama's help

As the new school year dawns in the West Bank, the air is heavy not only with anticipation but with the deep worry and sorrow that touches every Palestinian child—echoes of suffering from our people in Gaza, daily under attack and starvation, are felt keenly here, casting a shadow over the hearts of our young ones. At Karama Organization, we believe every child deserves not only an education, but also the joy and security that should accompany these formative years. This belief has guided our recent efforts to stand with Deheishe’s children as they take their first steps into the classroom this September.

The start of the school year is never easy for children in Deheishe Camp. Many face the daily realities of poverty, overcrowded homes and streets, and uncertainty about their safety and future. To help lift their spirits and ease their worries, Karama organized special activities right in the heart of the camp. Laughter echoed across the UNRWA school square as clowns and entertainers brought smiles and moments of pure happiness to children who too often bear burdens far beyond their years. For a few precious hours, stress and fear gave way to laughter, play, and the simple delight of being a child.

But our commitment goes beyond moments of joy. Recognizing the financial strain on families, especially as the cost of living continues to rise, Karama has joined hands with generous supporters to distribute essential school supplies to 150 schoolchildren from the camp’s most vulnerable families. For these children, a backpack filled with notebooks, pencils, and crayons is more than just a set of tools—it is a message that they are seen, valued, and supported by a wider community that cares about their future. We are looking for ways to distribute even more.

Moreover, Karama’s playground area, the only dedicated play space in all of Deheishe, remains a vital sanctuary for children to gather, play, and heal. Here, our team welcomes children daily, organizing games and activities that nurture their mental wellbeing and help them build resilience. In a place where safe spaces are rare, this playground stands as a beacon of hope and possibility.

None of this would be possible without the compassion and generosity of people like you. Your support has allowed us to bring joy, comfort, and practical help to children who need it most. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in the power of community and for standing with Deheishe’s children.

Yet, the need remains urgent. Every day, more children and their families turn to Karama for support, and every day we see the difference your contributions make. As the school year unfolds, we invite you to renew your commitment to these children. Your continued donations will help us reach more families, expand our programs, and ensure that every child in Deheishe has the chance to learn, grow, and dream.

Please stand with us, and with the children of Palestine, as we work for a brighter, more joyful future. Donate today—because every child deserves a reason to smile.

On to a safe and productive year inshallah!
