It's like home in the Shelter!

By Mariia Svyrydenko-Novak | Project Leader

Dear friends,

Please accept our profound gratitude for your support!

The war is going on. Although the number of people forced to leave their homes has slightly decreased, still every day evacuation trains save Ukrainians from bombs, shelling of their houses, hospitals, schools and other civilian facilities. These people have nowhere to live, nowhere to go and nothing to hope for. They have lost everything, sometimes even the dearest ones... But no matter how hard it is for them, there is always hope for better and happier stories.

We want to share with you such a happy story that teaches us not to give up and believe in goodness in spite of everything!

Last fall, a family with three children from Nikopol, which at that time was being heavily shelled, was hosted in our Shelter. Their father, Maxym, participated in a combat mission in eastern Ukraine back in 2014, but was commissioned due to health problems, so the couple decided that their mother would go to defend their own home. Thus, when russian troops began to mercilessly shell Nikopol, the husband evacuated the children to Lviv, while his wife remained to defend the country on the frontline in Bakhmut.

The family has two girls of a school age and a teenage boy – the future defender of his country, a student of the Military Lyceum. We offered them a separate cozy room for families. Maxym mentioned the coziness and comfort of that room that became the second home for the family.

Furniture, kitchen, household appliances, comfortable showers – all these things give a sense of security to people who had lived for several months in the basement, with no basic conveniences. The family lived in our Shelter for about four months, during which Maxym managed to find a job, the girls took an interest in drawing, and the youngest Oleksandra even received an award. All of them seemed to have come to life thanks to the comfort and warmth that they received from us.

Our Shelter has had a lot of such families and stories just for the year of its existence, and we are trying to constantly improve the living conditions of our residents: we replace windows, buy comfortable beds and mattresses, various household appliances and equip rooms with comfortable furniture. We want everyone who lives here to feel a little like home.

Due to your donations, we purchased 6 brand new beds for our residents so that after the cold floor in the basement, people felt comfortable, felt just like people.

Since February 24, 2022, under the project "Help Ukraine! Stop the War" CF "Your support" has been providing assistance to the Ukrainians affected by the war. And this means over 3000 internally displaced persons who received temporary housing and assistance in our Shelter in the city of Lviv.

Every small and large donation made by you allows us to achieve our primary task – to enable survivors of shelling, cold basements, lack of water and food to feel protected and rejuvenate in comfort and care.
