December 5 was a special day for Eldorado Embroiderers: their first graduation ceremony. The graduates proudly received their certificates to an audience of family and friends while examples of their work were shown on screen. Here’s what a couple of them had to say:
‘I thought it was amazing to receive our certificates for the first time and to be recognised by ACER.”
‘It was really wonderful. I can only thank ACER Brasil for everything—it was so rewarding.’
Selling handmade products isn’t always easy, and the group learned some valuable lessons this past holiday season. Sales were lower than expected, probably due to the rise of online shopping in Brazil, but the team picked up valuable insights on pricing and trends at local fairs. A small product display at ACER’s reception area yielded a much better response and ACER is now planning a permanent showcase in reception that will not only boost sales but also give our Collective a stronger visible presence in the local community.
While still missing the expert guidance of our teacher, Carol, who led the Eldorado Textile Project from 2017 to mid 2024, our local teachers are taking the lead, embracing new initiatives in innovation and growth, and driving the Eldorado Collective towards greater independence. They’ve been attending short courses to strengthen their skills in textiles and marketing, trying out new designs for products, and introducing new product lines such as Christmas decorations. Festival costumes are a big part of Brazilian culture, and, having gained experience making costumes for local dance schools, they are also planning to launch a line of children’s costumes for the popular traditional June festivals of Saints John, Anthony and Paul.
Meanwhile Higor, who last year successfully led ‘Eldorado Moda’, a beginners’ fashion group for young people, is launching a follow-up for beginners and an advanced group for any age. We are looking forward with confidence and hope to what 2025 will bring!
Thank you so much for your past support and continued engagement in these troubled times.
