As the saying goes,"Two steps forward, one step back..." Unfortunately that is how life goes some times. Due to the increased infection rate in The Bahamas, and specifically in Abaco, practices for Abaco Youth Baseball have been temporarily suspended. It is the best decision to keep the children and the entire community safe. The medical resources in The Marsh Harbour area are limited, and sadly, there has recently been an increased number of COVID related deaths in Abaco. Thanks to donations from the US and other countries, vaccines being distributed throughout Great Abaco Island and the surrounding cays. These vaccines have been available in various clinics and there will be another distribution next week. We are hopeful that we are on the down side of the recent spike in infections.
We cant wait to get our kids back on the baseball field. In the meantime, plans are being drawn up for the building of the bathroom facility at The Murphy Town Field. We are continuing to register boys and girls between the ages of 4 - 17, and we have established a need-based scholarship fund for young athletes that would not otherwise be able to participate in the baseball/softball program.
We would like to thank everyone that contributed to our Abaco Youth Baseball/Softball Fundraiser. Through your kindness and generosity, we raised over $40,000 to "Bring Youth Baseball back to Abaco". Special thanks to The Lyford Cay Charitable Trust Foundation and The Rotary Club Bahamas for their generous donations to support the Program.
