Vaccines play a crucial role in preventing infectious diseases such as polio, measles, and pneumonia caused by streptococcus Pneumoniae (PCV). By introducing a harmless form of a pathogen or a piece of it into the body, vaccines stimulate the immune system to recognize and remember the actual infectious agent. In the case of polio and measles, vaccines have been instrumental in near eradicating these diseases globally, significantly reducing the incidence and associated morbidity and mortality. By bolstering the body’s defenses, vaccines not only protect individuals but also contribute to community immunity, preventing the spread of these diseases and safeguarding public health on a broader scale.

The Comprehensive Health Center actively takes part in the national immunization program, focusing on children from newborns to five years old. In the timeframe of April to June 2023, a total of 5,102 vaccines were given to children within this age range. These vaccines, supplied by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), encompassed BCG, OPV, IPV, Penta, PCV, Measles, and Rota. The accompanying graph illustrates the distribution of each vaccine type throughout the reporting period.

During the April – June period, the CHC administered 489 tetanus vaccines to female patients, with 104 of them being pregnant. Among these pregnant patients, 299 received two or more doses, while 40 completed their fifth and final dose, ensuring comprehensive protection against tetanus during their childbearing years. Notably, no patients received supplementation of iron and folic acid during this period.

Between these few months (April to June), the CHC’s laboratory conducted a total of 1’484 blood tests during this period, providing a variety of analytical blood services.

In spite of the difficult circumstances, the CHC persevered in delivering its full range of services throughout the second quarter of 2023. This showcases the resilience of AfD and its capacity to navigate challenging situations. Nevertheless, to guarantee the delivery of high-quality healthcare, there is a necessity for expanding infrastructure. This includes incorporating inpatient obstetric services, enlarging laboratory facilities, and creating distinct areas for male and female patients. To meet these requirements, AfD is presently engaged in constructing a new health facility, but the project requires adequate funding to advance further.
