The humanitarian crisis in Sudan continues to escalate. Millions of people are still facing severe food insecurity, and the recent cholera outbreak has further compounded the challenges for millions already displaced by conflict. Cholera is a deadly disease that spreads rapidly in areas with inadequate sanitation and limited access to clean water, typically through contaminated drinking water or food. In crowded conditions where hygiene is compromised, the disease thrives, further endangering vulnerable populations.
In response, COOPI has intensified its response, prioritizing emergency measures to combat the outbreak and improve conditions in displacement camps. To ensure access to clean water, we have distributed water treatment kits to 1,600 vulnerable families and installed chlorinated water collection points. With support from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), we have also constructed 10 emergency latrines and launched hygiene education campaigns to curb the spread of disease. These measures have been critical in limiting the impact of cholera in some of the hardest-hit areas.
At the same time, COOPI continues to address the broader crisis. Emergency food supplies and nutritional assistance are reaching malnourished populations, while we provide critical assistance to overwhelmed health centers. We are also implementing disaster risk reduction initiatives to help communities prepare for the worsening situation.
The scale of need remains immense, with millions still at risk of malnutrition, disease, and displacement. COOPI is committed to sustaining and expanding its efforts, ensuring not only immediate relief but also the foundations for long-term recovery and resilience. Your continued support is vital to this mission. Thank you for standing with Sudan during this critical time.
