People Living with HIV Defending Democracy
South Korea's democracy is in crisis. Yun Seok-yul declared martial law, which is illegal and unconstitutional, and although it has been stopped, insurgents are still threatening democracy.
Many citizens in South Korea are taking to the streets and squares to rally in defense of democracy. Many people living with HIV/AIDS at HIV/AIDS Human Rights Action R are also taking to the streets and squares as citizens who make up Korean society.
Day in and day out, we are in the streets and squares, shouting out the values of democracy and equality. When democracy is defended and equality is upheld, the human rights of people living with HIV can speak louder and be guaranteed.
In the meantime, we continue to work to bring people living with HIV together in a safe space where they can share their concerns and network without discrimination. We're working with members of the newly created Community team who are living with HIV.
A human rights team has also been established. After the impeachment, dismissal, and removal of President Yoon Seok-yul, our human rights team will advocate for the promotion of human rights and rights of people living with HIV, focusing on labor rights.
HIV/AIDS is an important part of the LGBTQ+ movement's agenda. As an important member and partner of the LGBT rights movement in South Korea, we are also involved in the fight for LGBT rights, diversity, and equality for all.
Although the start of 2025 is not easy for Korean society, we will continue to uphold the values of democracy and equality and build a safe society without discrimination where everyone, including people living with HIV and LGBT people, can live happily.
