A group of nineteen (19) children in street situation from the OSMA area recently took part in an interactive session designed to teach them about “Safe and Unsafe Touch”. Guided by Teacher Jessa, the session aimed to strengthen the children’s understanding of personal boundaries, their rights, and ways to respond in situations that make them feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Using creative activities such as storytelling, a role-playing and open dialogue, the children were equipped with valuable tools for self-protection.
Adding to the success of the session was the dynamic participation of Letran College students, who stepped in as facilitators and mentors. Their involvement helped create a warm and supportive atmosphere where the children felt comfortable sharing thoughts and experiences. The young volunteers served as positive role models, encouraging open communication and building trust throughout the activities.
The program emphasized the importance of speaking up and seeking help when faced with unsafe situations. Teacher Jessa, alongside the Letran students, guided the children through practical strategies and real-life examples, ensuring the lessons were relatable and easy to understand. The safe space they created allowed every child to feel empowered to ask questions and express their feelings without judgement.
By the end of the day, the children emerged more confident and aware of their ability to protect themselves. This initiative shines a light on the power of community collaboration in safeguarding children’s right and wellbeing. With continued education and support, young minds can be strengthened to stand up for themselves and others in the face of challenges.
