Seeds of hope: transforming the future of babies in Cartagena

From the moment they are born, babies in Cartagena face a harsh reality that we cannot ignore. Inequality and the lack of opportunities for their adolescent mothers perpetuate a cycle of poverty and exclusion that limits their future. In Colombia, 15% of all births are to minors, with Bolívar and Antioquia being among the most affected departments. This situation impacts not only the mothers but also the well-being and development of their children.

Aware of this issue, in 2011 we created the Child Development Center (CIDI), a space dedicated to ensuring the growth and well-being of babies aged 3 to 24 months, children of our beneficiaries. At CIDI, we promote their development in all key areas: perceptual, linguistic, physical, mental, emotional, and social, providing them with safe and stimulating environments for learning and transformation.

Each year, we support the development of our beneficiaries' children, promoting conscious motherhood that positively impacts child well-being. In 2024, we served 240 babies aged 6 to 24 months, with 120 children per semester and an average of 50 children daily. Thanks to this support, 100% of the children achieved independent walking, improved their communication and social skills, and showed progress in cognitive processes such as attention, perception, and memory.

The impact of CIDI also extends to the mothers, who can continue their education and develop a professional career. Additionally, they participate in workshops on child health, positive parenting, and children's rights.

This continuous progress and improvement are possible thanks to the unwavering support of our donors and strategic partners, who firmly believe in the importance of investing in childhood. Together, we have transformed pain into hope, resignifying lives, restoring dignity, and opening doors for the development of maximum potential.

With your support, we continue to build a better future for these children and their mothers!
