Dear Donors,
Thank you for the interest shown in the Advocate for Environmental Justice in Niger Delta project. At this time, the initiative has not yet received financial contributions, so the planned community trainings and advocacy activities have not started.
For many years, communities across the Niger Delta have faced the consequences of oil pollution. Spills and contaminated waterways have affected farmland, rivers, and fishing areas that families once depended on for survival. In many places, the land no longer produces crops as it once did, and fish stocks have declined due to polluted waters.
The impact of these conditions extends beyond the environment. Families who relied on farming and fishing often lose their main sources of income. Residents also face health concerns when drinking water sources become unsafe or when pollution affects the air and soil around their homes.
Despite these challenges, many affected communities struggle to bring attention to the damage they experience. Limited access to legal guidance and public awareness means that calls for cleanup and accountability are often slow to gain response.
This project aims to support communities in learning how to document environmental damage, understand their rights, and raise their concerns through organized advocacy. Local leaders will receive training to help monitor environmental conditions and guide residents on ways to present their concerns to relevant authorities.
Community discussions, awareness activities, and engagement with policymakers will help highlight the need for responsible environmental management and the protection of communities affected by pollution.
We appreciate the attention already given to this effort and remain hopeful that support will grow so that these advocacy activities can begin. With the help of people who care about fairness and environmental protection, communities in the Niger Delta can gain stronger voices in the pursuit of justice.
Sincerely,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
