Fundraiser Report: AFAWI Annual Fundraiser

By Marlene Keller | Deputy Programmes Manager

Introduction
The Alliance for African Women Initiative (AFAWI) recently conducted its annual fundraiser to support vulnerable women and children in Ghana. Founded in 2006 by Philip Kwesi Agyei, AFAWI has been committed to fighting HIV/AIDS stigma, promoting gender equality, and advocating for education and basic human rights. This fundraiser was aimed at securing essential financial resources to sustain and expand our programs, ensuring that we continue to make a lasting impact on the communities we serve.

Fundraising Progress
Our goal for this fundraiser was to raise $7,500 to support our ongoing initiatives. Thanks to the generosity of 19 donors, we successfully raised $1,551. Although we have not yet reached our target, these contributions will be utilized effectively to continue our mission of empowering women and girls, creating local jobs, and fostering a more equitable future in Ghana.

Challenges and Importance of Funding
As a grassroots NGO, AFAWI faces significant challenges in securing financial support. Limited access to funding, bureaucratic hurdles, and logistical constraints pose threats to the sustainability of our programs. Without adequate resources, our ability to reach more individuals and maintain program quality is compromised. The funds raised in this campaign help us overcome these obstacles and ensure that we can continue serving the communities that rely on us.

Utilization of Funds
The money raised will be allocated to key areas essential for our operations and long-term impact:

  • Supporting initiatives that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.

  • Providing educational resources and scholarships for children in need.

  • Strengthening community-based programs focused on health, economic independence, and human rights advocacy.

  • Expanding our reach to underfunded communities through infrastructure development and logistical support.

Long-Term Impact
Annual fundraisers play a crucial role in ensuring AFAWI’s financial independence and sustainability. The funds raised enable us to plan and expand our initiatives, invest in infrastructure and human resources, and continue advocating for those in need. With consistent donations and community support, we remain committed to making meaningful, lasting change in Ghana.

Conclusion
While we are still working towards our overall fundraising goal, the $1,551 raised is a step forward in sustaining our mission. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all donors who contributed, and we encourage continued support to help us reach our target. Together, we can empower communities, transform lives, and build a just and dignified future for all.

For those who wish to contribute further, donations are still welcome. Every dollar brings us closer to our goal of creating a brighter future for women and children in Ghana. Thank you for your unwavering support!
