As the year draws to a close we reflect on what we have done and how this has changed lives for the better. There have been 15 Mobile Literacy classes so far this year for 519 female students. 9 classes have turned in results and 6 are currently in session until December 31 with 35 students in each class. Most students end the 4 month course reading at the 4th grade level and others at 3rd grade level.
Stories are the best way for us to show how you help poor Afghans improve their lives and communities. Here is one of our favorites from the year: “Jamila accelerated her literacy learning by taking a 4 month Mobile Literacy Class. She knows how to use all the phone functions and has learned how to read through text messaging. Her fiancé is a soldier posted in a conflict zone. One day she texted him and learned his unit was in trouble and trapped. She told the local government office and they then sent auxiliary troops to rescue them. If Jamila had not known how to read and use a phone she could not have helped her fiancé. Literacy – a vital skill that transforms lives!”
